Where this unit fits
Nugget ice is the reason operators choose this line. It is softer than cube ice, so it chews rather than cracks teeth, and it packs tighter in a cup — which means a fountain drink displaces less soda and the customer perceives a fuller cup. In practice that makes the format a fit for c-stores running a fountain programme, and a poor fit where the ice is mainly going into bagged retail sales.
Being a countertop unit, it needs counter depth and, more importantly, it needs the service clearances behind and above it. The removable ice machine is the part that eventually needs attention, and a unit boxed into a tight recess turns a routine service call into a counter demolition. Plan the surround with the machine coming out of it.
Air-cooled or water-cooled
Air-cooled is the default and the cheaper install, but it rejects its heat into the room — behind a counter in a small store that heat has to go somewhere, and it will fight the store's air conditioning through the summer. Water-cooled removes that problem and adds a water and drain requirement instead. In hot, enclosed spaces the water-cooled option is usually worth the extra plumbing.
What to sort out before ordering
Confirm three things on the floor plan rather than on site: electrical service at the counter, a drain within reach, and incoming water quality. Ice machines are the equipment most sensitive to water quality in a c-store, and a filtration spec set at install costs far less than the service calls that follow a bad one. We specify and install this as part of a build or remodel package; we do not take stand-alone service calls on existing equipment.
