Multi-Store Design & Equipment Rollouts

Building or re-imaging several stores is a different job from building one. We turn your best store into a standard, then design, supply and install it site by site.

Quick answer

A multi-store rollout works best when the design is done once and adapted, not redone: a standard floor plan in a few sizes, a standard equipment package and a standard graphics package. JayComp designs the standard, adapts it to each site, and delivers and installs the equipment on each one, from Ravia, Oklahoma to sites in all 50 states.

An operator with one great store usually wants the next five to work the same way. That is harder than it sounds. Each lot is a different shape, each building has its own utilities, and if every store is designed from scratch, no two end up alike. Purchasing, training, maintenance and the customer's experience all suffer.

A rollout fixes that by treating the store as a product: designed once, then built many times.

What goes into a store standard

StandardWhat it fixes
Floor plan familyZones, customer path, cooler wall position and checkout in two or three sizes
Equipment packageThe same coolers, doors, cases, shelving, counters and food-service equipment
Refrigeration designWalk-in sizes and refrigeration system per plan size
Graphics packageInterior color, category signage and brand graphics
Site checklistWhat we need from each site to adapt the plan

How a rollout runs

  1. Design the standard from your best store or from scratch, with you approving it once.
  2. Survey each site. Lot, building, utilities and anything that does not fit the standard.
  3. Adapt the plan to the site and issue that site's drawings and equipment schedule.
  4. Order equipment per site from the standard package.
  5. Deliver and install site by site, on the schedule your contractors set.

Each site gets drawings and an equipment schedule that agree with each other, because the same team produces both.

Why one company for the whole rollout

On a single store, a mismatch between the plan and the equipment is a headache. On twenty stores it is twenty headaches. Keeping design, equipment supply and installation with one company means a change to the standard is made once and flows to every site that has not been built yet. It also means one point of contact for every site, in every state.

We install the lines we carry directly, including Heatcraft and Russell refrigeration, Anthony and Styleline display doors and Madix shelving, so the same equipment goes into every store.

Rollouts that include remodels

Most operators have older stores as well as new sites. Those get remodeled toward the standard around the building that is already there. Some items, such as shelving and cabinets, can often be kept if they fit the new layout. Refrigeration near the end of its life usually is not. See convenience store remodeling and fuel brand conversions.

Getting started

Send us your site list with addresses, which sites are new and which are existing, your best-performing store if you have one, and the order you want to build in. We will tell you how a standard would work across them and what the first design package would cover. JayComp has built more than 2,500 stores since 1996.

Frequently asked questions

How many stores does it take to make a standard worth it?
Even two or three. The floor plan logic, equipment package and graphics are designed once, and every store after the first starts from a proven plan instead of a blank page.
Can the standard handle different building sizes?
Yes. Most standards are a family of two or three plan sizes, so the same layout logic fits a small-town lot and a highway site. Odd buildings get the standard adapted around them.
Do you install in other states?
Yes. JayComp designs, supplies and installs store equipment across all 50 states.
Can you mix new builds and remodels in one rollout?
Yes. New sites get the standard plan; existing stores get remodeled toward it around the building that is there. See remodel vs. new build.
